Do Christians Really need to be involved? YES! Our mandate from the Lord is to help those in need, to minimize any roadblocks facing abused members of our congregation and to maximize the resources that are at our disposal. We are to be the salve of compassion that our Lord has instructed. Isaiah 1:17
"Seek justice, relieve the oppressed, and correct the oppressor. Defend the fatherless, plead for the widows. Leviticus 19:16 “Do not stand by idly and see your neighbor’s blood spilled.” The blood and tears of so many go unnoticed in our midst because we have for too long been silent about this evil. They may not physically shed blood, but they shed the blood of their pain that they suffer in silence. The victim cries out…
Psalm 31:10,14 Have pity on me, 0 God, for I am in distress with sorrow my eye is consumed; my soul also, and my body. I am like a dish that is broken... But my trust is in you, 0 God; I say, 'YOU are my God. This is the cry of the soul trapped in an abusive situation. And God hears their cries. Psalm 10:14, 17,18 But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; The victim commits himself to you;…You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more. We as Christians have at our disposal the Light of Christ, the Truth of His love, and the healing power He can provide. We must speak out and let others know that abusive behaviors are wrong – always – and that no one deserves to be abused.
So many hurting people believe the lies that it is their fault that the abuse occurs, that there is no option, that dying may be better than living and that this is God’s will for them. Nothing is further from the truth. God does not condone abuse.
Hebrews 4:16 “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” And as the Body, we are to help. We are taking a stand through the Christian Coalition Against Domestic Abuse so that all may know the Healing love of our Lord and the oppressed are set free. It is also so that healing can take place for those who abuse others so that their relationship with the Lord is restored.
2 Chronicles 7:14-15 If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
If you would like to help us reach others, please consider supporting this Christian Coalition. Our prayer and mission is to end all forms of abuse, adult and child, so all people live in peace.
Isaiah 60:18 No longer will violence be heard in your land, nor ruin or destruction within your borders, but you will call your walls Salvation and your gates Praise. (NIV)
Jesus calls us to peace, in our land, in our work, in our friendships and especially, in our homes.
Colossians 3:15-16 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
I pray that you have peace.
